My eyes canât focus on everything at once, but that doesnât stop them from roaming every single thing. Iâm guessing from the anxiety coating our bond, Alios canât see what to do.
There are fairies everywhere. Some big, some really small, and most are of average size like Zee. Sheâs the fairy escorting us.
As soon as I turned to her, she silently communicated her name. Apparently, like incubi and succubi, they can communicate through their minds.
"This place is breathtaking," I muse aloud as we weave through the tallest trees I've ever seen. Almost everything is vibrant, almost in colors I've never seen before. Some animals seem to be only from this area, much like every other territory. Iâve said it before, but every region seems to be its own realm.
âWhat do you know about Agnaris?" Zee asks, her head still pointed forward, guiding us through the forest. She can weave without problem, her wings flapping and moving at a breakneck speed.
"Nothing. Until half a day ago, I didn't know this place existed. My mate told me." I squeeze Alios's hand in reassurance. "He's the King of Collitheââ
âHeâd have more access than most,â she complains. âBefore the war of eight, we were allies. But when Anord betrayed Stormhyr and us, no one saved us. No one.â
Every part of me aches at her words. Itâs not news to me that the Anord king betrayed three territories that aligned with him, but also with peace.
What they didn't know was that he never intended to bring peace. However, he did crave power and for everyone to be beneath his reign of terror.
âIâm so sorry,â I apologize, meaning it. I was a part of that war. I lost so many, witnessing horrors I should've never had to.
"Since then, we've hidden our people, cloaking our land and not allowing outsiders in. Anyone who left before the war was cut off, the connection to us all severed."
Blinking back tears, I wonder if thatâs the case for me. If my family took me from here. âDo you know who my parents are?â
âWere,â she responds. Were. My chest aches with that. Meaning they're gone. Dead. I figured they had to be. Who leaves their child to become a warrior, someone who is never saved and will always be at risk of being dead and buried?
Not many wanted that for others, especially their children.
âHow did they die?â
âBetrayal,â she answers with one word, not elaborating. âItâs not my story to tell, but I know your motherâs kin knows the story well.â
âKin?â I breathe out, letting a weight lift from me. They have family. "There are alive relatives?â
She nods, and we head up and embankment. In the distance, a huge tree, much like the one in Dalphenia, meets me.
It's in the tree, woven and dispersed in a way that seems too similar to be a coincidence. When Aegan and I came to the human realm, we didn't create the homes. They were already there, and we just made them better.
âAre there fairies in the human realm?â I immediately throw out the question.
